The CDC issued a moratorium on evictions for millions of American renters effective from Sept. 4 to Dec. 31, 2020. (*Update* This moratorium has now been extended to March 31, 2021.) If you're struggling to pay rent, you'll need to attest in a signed declaration to your landlord that you've sought rental assistance, that being evicted would require you to double up with others or become homeless, and that you promise to make partial rent payments. The CDC moratorium does not change local eviction protections currently in place, and does not relieve you of your obligation to pay rent.
